Anna Siow Usadi is an artist and mechanical engineer, whose practice examines how human notions of progress, time and nature have led to climate breakdown. Her work employs science fiction as both a critical and generative tool, reflecting on the systems that organise contemporary life while imagining alternative possibilities.

Usadi’s multidisciplinary works utilise sculpture, installation, writing and moving image to conjure up speculative scenarios with non-human protagonists. Through these posthuman encounters—whether through the lens of an artificial intelligence network, unicellular life or inanimate substances—the artist highlights the dependency of humans on past, present and future matter. Inspired by Donna Haraway’s notion of the cyborg, Lynn Margulis’ work on symbiogenesis and the phenomenon of quantum entanglement, the work often imagines collaborations between multiple ‘characters’ to reflect the complexity of ecosystems.

Drawing on geological and evolutionary processes of recycling, symbiosis and renewal, Usadi’s works treat matter as dynamic and responsive. The installation becomes a site where imagined activity takes place: algae morphs into combustion engines, termites collaborate with technology, or AI 3D-prints shells. Through these encounters, the work aims to reframe notions such as time, matter, agency and dependency.

Usadi (b. 1997, London) holds an MFA from Goldsmiths University of London and previously obtained a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. Recent exhibitions include a solo show, Hundreds of Millions of Years Destroyed, Efficiently, curated by MAMA (2025), Temporal Fictions at Piccalilli Gallery (2026) and Elsewhere, Elsewhen at SET Lewisham (2025).
